Vintage
miniature Navajo rug weavings. This is a very finely woven rug woven by the Bia
Family of weavers that have been famously weaving these small rugs for at least
3 generations on the Navajo Reservation in Northern Arizona near Canyon de
Chelly. This family of weavers use
miniature looms and very-very finely spun wool to craft these rugs. The wool is
re-spun into threadlike yarn and most of the colors are natural wool or vegetal
dye.
Purchased in
1990 by this collector from the Museum of Northern Arizona for $40. It was
stored carefully in the original bag. The
price of these highly prized miniature weavings have escalated considerably
over time. Researching and comparing similar
Bia miniature rugs we have found them going for $85-$225.
Size: 3 1/2” x 3”
